[Class 17 (ii)] [See also Groups XXXIV, V, and X] To provide a selfrenewing non-skid surface on the rubber tread of a shoe sole, rubber inserts 1, 2, 3, are embedded in the rubber material so as to be dislodged by frictional drag as the surface wears down in use. To facilitate the detachment of the inserts, their adhesion to the main body is weakened by treatment with acids, chlorine, or other halogen elements, nitrogen oxides, &c., prior to their incorporation in the unvulcanized portion of the tread, &c. |
