The use of a therapeutically effective amount of an isolated glycoconjugate peptide comprises an amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:1 or SEQ ID NO:2 for the manufacture of a medicament for treating brain tumors. Also described is an ex vivo method for diagnosing cancer in a patient comprising the determination of the presence of a peptide consisting of SEQ ID NO:1 or SEQ ID NO:2 in the patient's blood.
