METHOD FOR DETECTING VIABLE CELL AND AGAR MEDIUM FOR DETECTING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting viable cells which is able to detect even a small number of the viable cells in a short detection time and an agar medium for detecting the viable cells. SOLUTION: A test sample is added to the agar medium 2 mixed with a reagent such as blood, erythrocytes or the like presenting color change by reacting with carbon dioxide and held in a vessel 3. Subsequently a transparent gel which can closely cover the exposed surface 2a of the agar medium 2 is coated and closely adhered to the medium to form an air insulation layer 4 and a transparent plate 5 is put on the air insulation layer 4. The viable cells are detected by keeping the viable cells in a culture condition and based on the color change of the agar medium 2 caused by carbon dioxide generated by the viable cells in the test sample.
