PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber composition for tire tread, improved in workability in rubber processing, heat generation property and steering stability on the dry road while retaining grip performance. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for tire tread is obtained by compounding 100 pts.wt. of a rubber component comprising a styrene-butadiene rubber≥-40°C in glass transition temperature and≥30% in styrene content singly or a blend of≥50 wt.% of the above rubber and≤50 wt.% of another diene rubber with a total of 70-150 pts.wt. of 20-100 pts.wt. of silica and 0-100 pts.wt. of carbon black, 2-25 pts.wt. of a silane coupling agent of formula(1):(C<SB>n</SB>H<SB>2n+1</SB>O)<SB>3</SB>Si-C<SB>m</SB>H<SB>2m</SB>-S-CO-C<SB>k</SB>H<SB>2k+1</SB>(wherein, n is an integer of 1-3; m is an integer of 1-5; and k is an integer of 5-9) based on 100 pts.wt. of the silica, and 0.5-10 pt(s). wt. of a novolak-type phenolic resin, resorcinol or its condensate.
