PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic dictionary, which may retrieve information corresponding to an entry word from the dictionary a user wanted among a plurality of dictionaries. SOLUTION: The electronic dictionary has a switch memory 1 for storing a type of dictionary being searched, whole entry word list 4 for all the entry word lists of the plurality of the dictionaries, and an attribute list 5 corresponding to the whole entry word list 4. An entry word being input is retrieved from the whole entry word list 4. The attribute list 5 and the switch memory 1 are compared to find corresponding relation to narrow down the candidate words.
