The method involves reducing volume of an audio system during stopping of a motor vehicle and opening of a window and/or a door in the vehicle. The audio system is switched to mute, where the door and the window on a driver/ passenger side are opened, and the vehicle is stopped within an adjustable time period. The audio system is switched back into its original volume during closing of the window and door or starting of the vehicle.
