Nogo receptor-mediated blockade of axonal growth

An in vitro method of promoting neurite outgrowth comprising contacting a neuron with a Nogo receptor (NgR) antagonist which is selected from the group consisting of an isolated NgR polypeptide and an antibody or antigen binging fragment thereof that binds a NgR polypeptide. The NgR antagonist inhibits CNS myelin-induced neurite outgrowth inhibition and can also be used in the preparation of a medicament to treat a CNS disease.
