<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter suitable in cold regions by using an electric double layer capacitor and a secondary battery such as a lead-acid battery. <P>SOLUTION: This starter of a diesel engine for a vehicle comprises a starter motor 4 starting the engine, a glow device 5 pre-heating the engine, a temperature sensor detecting the temperature state of the engine, the secondary battery 7 such as the lead-acid battery, the electric double layer capacitor 6, a detection part detecting the voltage of the secondary battery, and a detection part detecting the voltage of the electric double layer capacitor. The starter also comprises a glow drive circuit 9 driving the glow device with a power supplied from the secondary battery if the voltage of the secondary battery is equal to or higher than a specified value when the engine is started at low temperatures and a selection control circuit 10 selecting the electric double layer capacitor as the drive power supply of the starter motor through a selection circuit if the voltage of the electric double layer capacitor is equal to or higher than a prescribed value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
