PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape which has a high output, a good reproducing output noise ratio (C/N) and a good error rate characteristic and secures, in particular, a good reproducing output noise ratio (C/N) and a low error rate in a shortwave length range that can be adaptive to a high capacity of≥1TB, and is excellent in high recording density characteristic. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape has a non-magnetic support and at least one magnetic layer formed on one surface of the non-magnetic support, wherein a Young's modulus along the longitudinal direction of a magnetic tape is set to≥11GPa and a difference [Hc<SB>MD</SB>-Hc<SB>TD</SB>] between a coercive force Hc<SB>MD</SB>of in longitudinal direction and a coercive force Hc<SB>TD</SB>in the width direction of the topmost magnetic layer of the magnetic tape is set to≥155kA/m and to≤Hc<SB>MD</SB>.
