[Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine cylinder, opposed scavenging-ports bl, b<3>, or groups of ports, are arranged, respectively, transversely and steeply inclined to the cylinder axis, so that the scavenging - currents combine as shown by the arrows, and leave by opposed exhaust ports a<1> which are preferably arranged tangentially, in opposite senses, to the cylinder bore. Many modifications are shown, and it is stated that the invention is applicable to mixture or liquid-fuel injection engines ; in the latter case the fuel is injected into the scavenging-stream at the beginning of, during, or at the end of, the compression stroke. |
