PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeding method in an image forming apparatus, adjusting the pressure contact force of a sheaf of transfer paper sheets to a pickup roller by a very simple means. SOLUTION: In this paper feeding method, the pickup roller 21 is disposed above a paper feed cassette 1 mounted in the image forming apparatus, the sheaf 5 of transfer paper sheets loaded in the paper feed cassette is pressed and energized to come into pressure contact with the pickup roller, and the transfer paper sheets are fed one by one from the upper end of the sheaf of transfer paper sheets to an image forming process. The pickup roller is provided in a paper feed unit held on the image forming apparatus to rotate around a predetermiend support axis C. The paper feed unit is provided with a plumb 31 adjustable in position, and the pressure contact force of the sheaf of transfer papers to the pickup roller is adjusted by adjusting the distance of the plumb from the support shaft.
