PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a printer comprising a plurality of recording head modules using a line head for printing in which independent recovery mechanism is provided for each recording head module so that recovery mechanism is performed selectively and recording operation can be sustained with other recording head module depending on the content of an image. SOLUTION: Each recording head is provided with a means for determining accumulated number of recorded pixels and frequency of recovery operation accompanied by wiping with a wiper blade is reduced in a recording head module of low recording density.
