A filing instrument enabling the rather easy opening/closing thereof by manually operating the filing rods thereof and also manufacturable easily. The filing instrument comprises a main filing rod (12) directly closed by fingers and an auxiliary filing rod (14) moving following the operation of the main filing rod in the closing direction. The main filing rod (12) and the auxiliary filing rod (14) are formed to be moved in the closing direction along its axial direction and so that the locking parts (50) thereof at the free ends are locked at normal positions and the filing rods (12) and (14) are closed and to be moved in the opening direction so that the filing rods can be opened. Also, the main filing rod and the auxiliary filing rod are so formed that, when the filing rods are closed, they are moved in the closing direction more than the normal position where the locking part (50) of the main rod (12) at the free end is locked and the locking part (50) of the auxiliary rod (14) at the free end is locked at the normal position.
