<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably control an image forming apparatus wherein an image can be formed by selecting one of a first image formation mode of forming images using both a first photoreceptor and a second photoreceptor having a higher sensitivity than the first photoreceptor and a second image formation mode of forming images at a higher speed than the first image formation mode using only the second photoreceptor. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus, the quantity of light K<SB>0</SB>of a light sources 106K and the quantity of light C<SB>0</SB>of a light sources 106C are equalized by setting (Spc/Spk)=A(Vc/Vk) with respect to a relation between Spc and Spk in an optical path branching device 130.
