<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smart key system capable of surely preventing a theft of a vehicle, even if an electronic key is stolen. <P>SOLUTION: Since an answer signal is transmitted only when receiving a first request signal in predetermined permission time after inputting fingerprint information by a first fingerprint sensor 68 (S14 to S18), even if a right user allows the electronic key 6 to read a fingerprint, when the permission time passes (S18 : YES), the fingerprint information on its fingerprint is not transmitted even when receiving the first request signal. That is, this smart key system is constituted so as not to operate the basic function of the smart key system except when the user has will for using the vehicle.
