PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which is made small in size while it is equipped with an image blur correction function. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is equipped with a guiding mechanism which supports a retreat optical element constituting a part of a photographic optical system so as to move between a photographing position where it is positioned on the common optical axis of the photographic optical system and a retreat position where it retreats from the common optical axis on a plane orthogonal to the common optical axis, a shake detection sensor which detects the direction and the magnitude of shake applied to the photographic optical system, and a single actuator which drives the retreat optical element in a guiding direction by the guiding mechanism based on output from the shake detection sensor when the retreat optical element exists at the photographing position, and moves the retreat optical element to the retreat position when a moving signal for moving from the photographing position to the retreat position is given to the retreat optical element.
