PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coil component having a structure capable of rapidly switching from the open state of an external electrode to a short circuit state for making an evaluation test work easy and rapid, and also to provide an evaluation method of the coil component. SOLUTION: The coil component 1 comprises a chip body 2 and external electrodes 3-1 to 3-8. The chip body 2 is made a structure where a low dielectric member is provided on the upper surface of a magnetic substance 5 including coils 4-1 to 4-4, and the external electrodes 3-1 to 3-8 are formed at opposite ends of the chip body 2. Further, each external electrode 3-1 (3-2 to 3-8) is constructed with a first extension 31 extending on the surface of the low dielectric member 6, and a second extension 32 extending on a lower surface of the magnetic substance 5 with a cross section shaped into a U shape. The length of the extension of the first extension part 31 is more lengthened than that of the second extension 32, and tip ends of the opposing first extensions 31, 31 are brought into close contact.
