PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct nonlinear characteristics of head sensitivity distribution in a head positioning method and apparatus for positioning a head which reads a disk medium, at a predetermined position. SOLUTION: A disk device including a disk medium (6), a head (4), an actuator (3) and a control circuit (19) comprises: a demodulation unit (20) for demodulating a demodulation position from an output of the head; a computing element (21) for computing an error between the demodulation position and a target position; and a gain correction unit (22) for correcting the error with a gain. The gain correction unit (22) offsets the head (4) around the zero point of PosN, PosQ from the head (4) to correct the error with a position gain corresponding to the surplus of the target position, from the position gain measured at each offset position. The position gain of a relative position is used, thereby detecting an accurate position error in which, at each offset position, the nonlinear characteristics of head sensitivity distribution is corrected.
