PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conductive member maintaining a constant gap at high precision between an image carrier and an electrical resistance adjusting layer even when used over a long period of time, which is reliable and especially preventing an occurrence of deviation in installed positions of gap retaining members with respect to the conductive supporting body. SOLUTION: The conductive member 20 is provided with the conductive supporting body 21 constituting a shaft member, the electrical resistance adjusting layer 22 provided in the conductive supporting body 21 and a pair of the gap retaining members 23 which are provided on both sides of the conductive supporting body 21 so that they are abutted to end surfaces of the electrical resistance adjusting layer 22 and forming the gap G at constant interval between an outer periphery surface of the image carrier 4 and the outer periphery surface of the electrical resistance adjusting layer 22. In order to ease expanding force in the electrical resistance adjusting layer 22 acting on the gap retaining member 23 along the axial direction, the gap retaining member 23 has a space 24 allowing intrusion of the increased part due to the heat expansion of the electrical resistance adjusting layer 22.
