PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition which is used for tires and balances three performances of wet performance, low fuel cost property and abrasion resistance in high dimension. SOLUTION: This rubber composition for tires is obtained by first mixing (i) 100 pts.wt. of a dienic rubber containing≥40 pts.wt. of styrene-butadiene copolymer rubber (SBR) having a weight-average mol.wt. (Mw) of 700,000 to 1,500,000, (ii) 30 to 120 pts.wt. of silica having a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) specific surface area of 90 to 130 m<SP>2</SP>/g, (iii) 2 to 20 pts.wt. of a silane coupling agent, and (iv) another arbitrary auxiliary additive for the rubber, except a vulcanization compounding agent and a softener, at a rubber temperature of 60 to 125°C for 150 to 300 sec, mixing the mixture with the softener at a rubber temperature of 140 to 155°C for 30 to 300 sec to sufficiently react the silica/silane coupling agent/rubber polymer, and then adding the vulcanization compounding agent.
