PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat device for a vehicle capable of enhancing the safety against collision by precluding the occupant from moving toward behind the vehicle from the seat device even in case a tail-end collision load is applied while the seat is in the reclining condition using ottoman. SOLUTION: A pendulum member 27 moves backward when a tail-end collision load equal to or exceeding a certain level is applied. At this time, a hang-down wire 27a for the pendulum member 27 displaces ratchet teeth backward to release the meshing with the ratchet teeth 29. Thereby the ottoman gear 23 with the rotating angle retained is released and rotates by the own weight of the ottoman, and the ottoman in the horizontal service condition is displaced to the plumb attitude as accommodated condition.
