<p>The present invention relates to a method of cleaning the interior surfaces of a non-loaded washing machine or a non-loaded automatic dishwasher with a particulate composition by forming in said washing machine or automatic dishwasher an acidic aqueous liquor comprising water and dissolved or dispersed therein said particulate composition, wherein said particulate composition comprises an effervescence system and sufficient acid to form an acidic aqueous liquor having a pH of below 4.</p>
