<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To search for a remedy which is efficacious against intractable diseases causing visual cell injuries such as retinal pigment degeneration, cone dystrophy, age-related macular degeneration, age-related maculopathy, macular edema, retinal detachment and so on and provide a material which is useful in regenerating visual cells or functions thereof. <P>SOLUTION: Sustained-release compositions, wherein hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) or pigment epithelium-derived neurotrophic factor (PEDF) is impregnated with a crosslinked gelatin hydrogel, show each an excellent effect of suppressing visual cell degeneration. When such a composition is combined with fat-derived interstitial cells and subretinally administered, visual cells or the functions thereof can be regenerated and the effect of suppressing visual cell degeneration can be strengthened and prolonged. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
