<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and composition for enrichment and characterization of a human hematopoietic precursor and a stem cell. <P>SOLUTION: The high tissue specificity of AC133 antigen expression is particularly advantageously utilized during enrichment for highly purified progenitor cell populations. An AC133-positive cell population is highly enriched for cells that are active in assays measuring progenitor cell activity, particularly in the CFU-GM activity.
