PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnosis apparatus which is small and can detect a position and a direction of an ultrasonic image or ultrasonic scanning with high precision. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic vibrator 18 to transmit and receive an ultrasonic wave and a transmission coil 19 for generating an AC magnetic field are disposed at a pointed head section of an insertion section 7 of an ultrasonic endoscope 2 and a central position of an ultrasonic scanning surface in the vicinity of a position of the transmission coil 19 can be detected from the detection of the AC magnetic field by an external reception coil 25. The direction to be a standard such as a 12:00 direction or the like on the ultrasonic scanning surface can also be detected from the positions of a bend section 12 at two states of being bent and straight by one transmission coil 19 which can be miniaturized. The direction at the time of the next ultrasonic scanning during the forward and backward motion in a direction of an insertion axis can also be detected from the position and the compass bearing at the initial state.
