PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanning apparatus which is free from any deterioration of drawing performance and which is miniaturized and simplified in overall configuration and an image forming apparatus using the optical scanning apparatus. SOLUTION: The optical scanning apparatus comprises: a light source means 1; an incident optical system 2 for guiding a light beam emitted from the light source means 1 to a deflecting means; and an imaging optical system 5 for converging the light beam deflected by the deflecting means onto a surface 6 to be scanned. The incident optical system 2 comprises an anamorphic condenser lens having a refractive power in a main scanning cross section and a refractive power in a sub-scanning cross section orthogonal to the main scanning cross section, which are different from each other. The imaging optical system 5 has a refractive power by which a deflective surface of the deflecting means or a vicinity of the deflective surface and the surface to be scanned are made in conjugate relation with each other in a subscanning cross section and also satisfies conditional expression.
