PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a steel cord for reinforcing a rubber material, capable of heightening the tensile modulus of the rubber material without the reduction of the durability caused by the generation of separation at the vicinity of the cord in the rubber material by regulating the leaning angle of a core wire at a prescribed value when producing the steel cord for reinforcing the rubber material, constituted of the core consisting of the twistless core wires and a sheath. SOLUTION: Provided is the method for producing the steel cord for reinforcing the rubber material, constituted of the core obtained by arranging two twistless core wires in parallel in the longitudinal direction, and one layer of the sheath obtained by twisting three to six sheath wires around the core, and having a flat outline shape of the cord in a cross section orthogonal to the cord axis. The tension Tc per one core wire at the twisting part when twisting the core with the sheath is regulated so as to be≥1.2 and≤3.0 times of the tension Ts per one sheath wire.
