PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost liquid crystal display device in which prescribed surface luminance is ensured even when transmittance of a liquid crystal panel fluctuates within a wide range. SOLUTION: Initialization processing in turning on the power to the liquid crystal display device is conducted. The transmittance data is read into a microcomputer 13 via a memory means 13 connected to the liquid crystal panel 11. Based on the transmittance data, a rank, being a starting address of an LUT 18 in which the parameter data to vary the luminance is stored, is set. The set data, being set according to the rank of transmittance information, is read out, and transferred to a luminance varying means 15. Furthermore, whether the prescribed number of set data is set or not is judged. If the setting is not finished, one is added to the address of the LUT 18 and the processing is returned to the setting judgement.
