PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic encoder capable of securing a magnetic force sufficient for acquiring stable sensing, achieving excellence in resistance to corrosion, eliminating rust problems even when used for a long period of time or in adverse environments, and achieving satisfactory productivity and low costs. SOLUTION: The magnetic encoder 10 is provided with both a multipole magnet 14 in which magnetic poles are alternately formed in the circumference and a core bar 11 for supporting the multipole magnet 14. The multipole magnet 14 is a sintered body formed by sintering a mixture powder of a magnetic powder and a nonmagnetic metal powder. A surface treatment for resistance to corrosion is applied to the magnetic powder itself to be used for the sintered body prior to the formation of the sintered body.
