[PROBLEMS] To provide a solution composition, particularly, a water-soluble polymer having high setting power and hair treatments containing the polymer; an amino acid polymer composition which is thickened and/or foamed and has moisturizing effect and which exerts lustering effect when applied to the hair and can be incorporated with a cosmetic or an external preparation; and cosmetics (such as moisturizer) or external preparations which are lowly irritant to the skin and excellent in the feelings in use and which can retain the moisturizing effect for a long time. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] An amino acid polymer comprising in the molecule 20 to 99% by mole of repeating units represented by the general formula (1) and 1 to 80% by mole of repeating units represented by the general formula (2) (wherein R is a hydrocarbon group which may contain a heteroatom; m is an integer of 1 or 2; and n is an integer of 1 to 3), or compositions of such polymers; and hair treatments, cosmetics, or external preparations, containing the same.
