[Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] A fastening device for holding, in any position of adjustment, the sliding panel of a motorcar roof comprises a plate 40 secured transversely to the undersurface of the panel 30 by brackets 39, the plate supporting a pair of oppositely disposed bolts 55 operable simultaneously by a central rotatable handle 58. The outer end of each bolt bears against a member 51 depending from a pivot 52 between lugs bent up from the end of plate 40. The panel slides along horizontal flanges 27 and the outwardly curved ends of the members 51 are urged into clamping engagement with the lower faces of the flanges when the bolts are shot. As described, the roof opening has a water-check tray 15 of channel section disposed around its periphery and the panel has a depending flange 41 suitably apertured to receive plate 40 and bolts 55. Lateral movement and lifting of the panel may be prevented by horizontally adjustable members 47 having vertical portions 48 bearing slidably against the edges of flanges 27 and horizontal portions 49 engaging under the flanges. When closed, the panel is flush with the fixed portion of the roof and its rear corners have pads, not shown, embracing inclined ramps which guide the panel downwards and then horizontally beneath the fixed rear portion of the roof during opening movement. Cork &c. pads may be provided where sliding engagement occurs at 42, 44, 49.
