The invention relates to a method of determining the roaming status of a mobile terminal. According to the invention, a device (DD) receives N values (G<SUB>1</SUB> to G<SUB>N</SUB>), such as power values, which are measured between a mobile (TM) and N base stations (Bj) at K instants. The following steps are performed at each instant K, namely: the best value is extracted; and the average of the best values in a time window, a ratio of the best value to the average best value and two probability density functions of said ratio are determined for when the mobile is roaming and immobile. Moreover, at every instant K, a density ratio of the product of the probability densities determined when the mobile is roaming to the product of the densities determined when the mobile is immobile is compared to a threshold in order to determine if the mobile is roaming when the ratio is less than said threshold; if not, the mobile is considered to be immobile.
