The present invention consists in the injection of tracers into drilling muds while an oil well is being drilled in order to obtain accurate an reliable information relative to the capacity of carrying cuttings. The inventive process includes defining the type of tracers and the concentration limits suitable for maintaining the rheological properties of the fluid; the invention also includes the preparation method; the injection method; the sampling and chemical analysis for evaluating the tracer, as well as the data analysis using distribution curve concepts. The data obtained by the developed technique enables decisions to be made for improving the control of the drilling process.
