The present invention relates to a catalyst converter (1) comprising a carrier (2) having exhaust gas passages (3) therein, a lower catalyst layer (6) coated over the carrier (2) and comprising a hollow oxide powder loaded with catalytic metal, and an upper catalyst layer (7) coated over the lower catalyst layer (6), directly or at least partly directly exposed to exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust gas passages (3) and comprising a solid oxide powder loaded with a catalytic metal. The hollow oxide powder may be ceria or alumina based oxide. Further it may be a composite oxide such as a Ce-Zr composite oxide or a La containing alumina as well.
