The device has an addressing unit to selectively address rows of cells of a plasma display panel. A maintenance unit, including a capacitor (C1), maintains an electrical discharge inside a cell during a maintenance phase consecutive to an addressing phase. The addressing unit and the maintenance unit pass a bi-directional current in the cells of the panel during the addressing and/or maintenance phases.
