A syringe (2) for injecting a liquid substance (4), comprises a tubular container (6) for the liquid substance (4), an injection needle (8) which extends from a first end (10) of the container (6), a housing (12) extending over the container (6), a guard tube (14) extending over the injection needle (8) and the first end (10) of the container (6), and spring biasing means (16), the guard tube (14) being slideable over the container (6) and into the housing (12) when injection pressure is applied to the housing (12) for injecting the liquid substance (4), and the spring (16) being such that it biases the guard tube (14) in a direction out of the housing (12) whereby the guard tube (14) returns to its position over the injection needle (8) when the injection pressure is removed from the housing (12). |
