<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transparent optical film with superior optical film properties, exhibiting uniform phase-contrast distribution and having the occurrence of spectral unevenness suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: A birefringent material containing a non-liquid crystal polymer, is resolved in methyl isobutyl ketone to prepare a coating solution. This coating solution is applied to a transparent film so as to form a coating film, and this coating film is dried. Thus, an optical film, having a birefringent layer superimposed directly on the transparent film, is obtained. As the non-liquid crystal polymer, a polyimide which has ≥0.03 birefringent index (Δnxyz) in the thickness direction when formed into a film and which is soluble with methyl isobutyl ketone can be used. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
