PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs by suppressing the usage of SCC-resistant two-phase stainless steel and stainless steel of a high Mo content when they are used for a lid. SOLUTION: A canister has a metal main body 2 and a basket 3 placed in the main body 2. In the canister, radioactive substances 4 are supported by the basket 3 and an upper opening of the main body 2 of the canister is blocked by the lid 5. The lid 5 consists of a primary lid 6 which has a structural strength and wall thickness required for radiation shielding and whose central part on its outer surface is covered with a thin-walled cover and a thin-walled sealing ring 7 covering a weld between the primary lid 6 and the upper opening of the main body 2 of the canister, and bosses 13 for hoisting accessories are placed in the primary lid 6.
