PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a select assist device for an automatic transmission capable of enlarging a degree of freedom of layout by miniaturizing a selector lever and of obtaining select lever operation force characteristic in accordance with demand while allowing range switching operation in the case of failure by mechanical connection of the selector lever and a range position switching device. SOLUTION: A brake control calculation part 38 for reducing an assisting force to control overrun of a selector lever 2 is provided to a control unit 22 for sending to an assist actuator 9 a control command for changing assisting force on the basis of operation of a driver detected by a torque sensor 21.
