摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately control pumping motion of an internal combustion engine during fuel cut control from a viewpoint of comparing pressure of a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine and pressure in an air intake passage or an air exhaust passage. SOLUTION: Valve open timing of an intake valve is set to timing when cylinder pressure CP gets consistent with intake pressure PM for suppressing intake return to the air intake passage during fuel cut control. Consequently, intake air once warmed by remaining heat in the combustion chamber does not return to the air intake passage and is not cooled. Air discharged to the exhaust passage side is not easily cooled. Consequently, pumping motion of the engine during fuel cut control can be appropriately controlled from the viewpoint of comparing pressure in the combustion chamber and pressure in the air intake passage, and exhaust emission control catalyst can be prevented from being cooled during fuel cut control.
