PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which consumption of toner in a refreshing mode is reduced, and image deletion is suppressed. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: an amorphous silicon photoreceptor drum 1; a electrifier 2 to charge the surface of the photoreceptor drum 1; a developing roller 4 to form a toner image on the photoreceptor drum 1; and a polishing roller 6 and a cleaning blade 9 to remove the toner from the surface of the photoreceptor drum 1 and to polish the surface of the drum 1. The apparatus is also equipped with: a detecting means 16 which detects the position of a portion (potion opposing to the electrifier) 12 on the surface of the photoreceptor 1, the portion opposing the electrifier 2 when rotation of the drum 1 is stopped; and a controlling means which carries out the refreshing mode by supplying the toner from the developing roller 4 only in the vicinity of the portion 12 opposing to the electrifier detected by the detecting means 16 and removing the toner with the polishing roller 6 and the cleaning blade 9.
