PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve work efficiency by shortening the time required for stabilizing a gyroscope since the time during which divers can safely work at a water depth of 50 m is very short, provide a means for verifying that azimuths are measured with the gyroscope in a stable state, and measure the azimuths underwater. SOLUTION: An azimuth measuring apparatus is constituted of: an optical gyroscope having an azimuth digital output; a device for continuously recording its azimuths; and a communication means for outputting its record to the outside. An optical gyroscope type wave height meter azimuth verification apparatus is constituted of both the azimuth measuring apparatus and a watertight container for housing this. An optical fiber gyroscope, an optical fiber gyroscope azimuth display apparatus; an optical fiber gyroscope azimuth continuous recording apparatus; and a data communication apparatus are arranged in the watertight container. A Glass window is mounted to the watertight container. By reading data of the continuous recording apparatus via a personal computer, it is possible to read azimuths in real time underwater and verify stable state at measurements.
