PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new titanium oxide structure which has a high specific surface area and whose material characteristics are improved by controlling the form and the structure of nano unit; and to provide a simple method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The titanium oxide structure has a nano-sheet form. A preferable nano-sheet structure is such that the length in the most longitudinal direction of each sheet is 10-300 nm. It is preferable that the nano-sheet structure has a wavy curved-surface form, a cylindrical form formed by uniform winding of a part of a nano-sheet, or a conical form formed by nonuniform winding of a part of a nano-sheet, and further, the titanium oxide structure includes assemblies formed from these structures. Although the nano-sheet structure is obtained by subjecting a titanium oxide powder to alkali treatment for 1-60 h, a preferable method for producing the nano-sheet structure comprises, after subjecting the powder to the alkali treatment, subjecting the treated powder to acid cleaning. Suitable alkali treatment conditions are such that the temperature is 80-160°C and the time is 1-48 h.
