A device for use with a line holder capable of dispensing a line, comprising a length measurement device for measuring a length of line dispensed and an angle measurement device for measuring an angle of the line. A calculation device is used to calculate an approximate position of an object attached to the line based upon the measured length and the measured angle. The measurement and calculation devices may be mounted to a fishing rod and reel, allowing the user to measure the depth of underwater equipment.
