The method involves determining a temperature model (6) by applying an operational parameter e.g. an expectancy value, for an amount of oxygen in an exhaust gas block (4) as an input signal (2). The expectancy value is compared with a characteristic parameter for a real amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas block for generating a control deviation that is applied for correcting the model. An independent claim is also included for a device for treatment of exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine.
