<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a development apparatus where a developer carrying performance is improved by reducing the rubbing of a belt member to the utmost. <P>SOLUTION: The development apparatus 4 is provided with a developer carrying member 41 which is arranged facing an image carrier 1 for carrying an electrostatic latent image, and which forms a traveling-wave field and carries the developer by applying a plurality of kinds of AC voltage having mutually different phases on a plurality of traveling-wave generating electrodes 41b arranged at prescribed intervals in the base material, and the belt member 101 covering the surface of the developer carrying member 41 and also moving on the surface of the member 41 in the developer carrying direction. By scattering the developer carried on the belt member 101 toward the image carrier 1 by the traveling-wave field, the electrostatic latent image is developed.
