PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vanadium-based film coated tool comprising a cutting tool, a gear cutting tool, or a forging tool coated with a vanadium-based film with a hardness, adhesiveness, toughness, and surface roughness practicable as the cutting tool which is provided at a film-forming temperature lower than the annealing temperature of a steel. SOLUTION: In this vanadium-based film coated film, a hard film formed on a base material of high-speed steel or cemented carbide by ion plating method comprises a vanadium-based hard coating a layer of at least one layer having a component of Vx (CyN1-y)1-x (where x and y are atomic ratios of V, C, and N, 0.3≤0.80, 0≤y≤1) and a metal vanadium-coating b layer formed of a metal vanadium and unavoidable impurity elements O, C, and N which are indispensable for production.
