PURPOSE:To obtain the titled partially novel compound useful as a drug for circulatory organs and an antiulcer in high yield, by reacting a 6- oxoprostaglandin E1 with a methylating agent and optionally deprotecting. CONSTITUTION:A 6-oxo-prostaglandin E1 shown by formula I (R<1> is 1-10C alkyl; R<2> and R<3> are H, tri 1-7C hydrocarbon silyl, etc.; R<4> is H, methyl or vinyl; R<5> is straight chain or branched-chain 3-8C alkyl which may contain O, etc.; n is 0 or 1) is reacted with a methylating agent to give the aimed partially novel compound (in the case wherein X and Y are methylene) shown by formula II (R<11> is H or 1-10C alkyl; R<21> and R<31> are H, tri 1-7C hydrocarbon silyl, etc.; X and Y are O or methylene but not O at the same time). A compound shown by formula III (B is Br, etc.; Z is Cl, etc., when Z is titanium and n=4) is preferable as the methylating agent and the amount of the methylating agent used is 0.5-20 equivalents based on 1mol compound shown by the formula I.
