Socket contact 10 having a split socket for an electrical connector including a cylindrical body 20 having a circular cross-section, one end 22 of which is provided for being connected to an electrical conductor and the other end of which, provided for receiving a pin 16, is in the form of a socket which is open towards the outside and has an axial hole 24 and a bottom 28. The side wall of the socket includes a pair of slits 31-32 extending longitudinally in a diametral plane in order to define contact fingers 41-42 which are subjected, in the vicinity of their base, to a permanent shrinkage deformation so that their free ends converge towards the opening 26 of the said socket in order to grip around the pin 16 elastically. According to the invention, the slits 31-32 are extended beyond the bottom 28 of the socket in order to coincide with a single diametral slit 34 which penetrates into the body 20 of the contact and the permanent deformation is exerted radially in order to pinch the single slit 34 with a view to bringing the free ends of the contact fingers 41-42 closer together.
