PURPOSE:To easily retrieve the picture of a recording medium by respectively reducing the plural pictures recorded on the recording medium, disposing to form content pictures, recording on the recording medium, and reproducing and displaying the content picture on a picture displaying means. CONSTITUTION:When a recording button R is pressed, the picture is written on a DRAW type optical disk 5 through an optical disk controller 6. At the same time, the reduced picture is written in a content memory 7. For instance, when the contents of the 25 pictures are stored in the one screen, an address controller 8 is made incremental once of five times both in a main scanning direction and in a sun-scanning direction. The start address in the main scanning and the sun-scanning is shifted according to the sequence of the picture to be written in content memory 7. This content picture is shifted to a video RAM 3, thereby, the content picture can be recognized from a CRT4. This picture is written in the DRAW type optical disk 5 through the optical disk controller 6.
